# LISTACRYL glossary

A dictionary of the material and the process: what solid surface, ATH, ADC, seamless bonding and the other words on this site and in our documentation actually mean.

**Solid surface**

A class of cast composite materials, homogeneous through their full thickness, with a non-porous surface and the ability to be bonded seamlessly. Also called cast stone or acrylic stone.

**Acrylic solid surface**

Solid surface on PMMA acrylic resin with mineral filler. It differs from polyester stone by containing no styrene, holding up under UV and being fully repairable.

**Cast stone**

A general trade term covering every cast stone-like material: acrylic, polyester and quartz agglomerate alike. The actual composition has to be checked separately.

**PMMA**

Polymethyl methacrylate, acrylic resin. The binder of acrylic solid surface: it governs translucency of the mass, UV stability and restoration of the surface by sanding.

**ATH**

Aluminium trihydrate, Al(OH)₃. Mineral filler derived from bauxite: it adds hardness, suppresses combustion and removes fading.

**ADC**

Adaptive Density Composite — the LISTACRYL line with a density range of 900–1800 kg/m³. Density and thickness are set to the type of part.

**ALM**

Active lightweight modifier — the ADC component that lowers the density of the mass without sacrificing homogeneity or hygiene.

**Seamless bonding**

Joining parts with a two-component acrylic adhesive matched to the sheet colour, then sanding the joint flush. The junction stops reading by eye or by hand.

**Thermoforming**

Heating the sheet until it softens and forming it in a mould. It allows curved fronts, bowls and three-dimensional elements to be made from a flat sheet.

**Gelcoat**

The decorative surface layer on polyester composite products. Homogeneous acrylic solid surface has none: colour and structure are identical through the thickness.

**Styrene**

The monomer of polyester resins. It can be emitted under heat and in service. Acrylic formulations do not use it.

**Flammability group G2**

Classification under GOST 30244: moderately flammable materials. For 12 mm sheet it is confirmed by the fire safety certificate together with groups V2, D2 and T2.

**Mohs hardness**

A relative mineral hardness scale from 1 to 10. LISTACRYL sheet rates 4, which is typical for acrylic solid surface and means it can be worked with ordinary tooling.

**Water absorption**

The share of moisture the material takes up over a set time. LISTACRYL sheet absorbs 0.2 %, which means the surface is effectively non-porous.

**Thermoformed bowl**

A basin or sink drawn from sheet rather than cast separately. It lets the worktop and the bowl be made as one piece with no joint.
